I still think about you Peter!

TLDRRead the short version
- I met Peter through my mum. He had a dead-end job and an incredible mind, and he never really applied either to the world that would have paid him for it.
- He got me into World of Warcraft. Then into web development. PHP. Django. The path I am still on started with him.
- He passed away in his house. I still think about him. I have not forgotten, and I never will.
Peter#
I made a friend called Peter through my mum.
He was an amazing person with an incredible mind. He did not apply himself. He would have dead-end jobs. And the guy was a genius.
That gap still sits with me. The world pays for output and credentials and the right kind of push. Peter had the mind. He did not have the habit of turning it into a career. People who only saw the job title never saw what I saw.
What he gave me#
Peter got me into World of Warcraft.
That sounds small until you know what it opened. Games were the door. Behind the door was curiosity, systems, building things, staying up too late learning how something worked because someone patient enough to care was sitting on the other side of it.
He got me into web development. He helped me learn PHP. He helped me learn Django. The stack has changed since then. The debt has not. A lot of what I do for a living still traces back to a friend who showed me that code was something you could learn with another person in the room, not something you had to be born knowing.
I did not find that path alone. Peter put me on it.
Still here#
He sadly passed away in his house.
I still think about you, Peter.
I love you, dear friend. I have not forgotten about you, and I never will.
Some people leave advice. Some leave money. Peter left a direction. Games, then code, then a life built on learning things that looked hard from the outside. That is still with me. You are still with me.
